Lore: Liber Veritatis

Disclaimer: The following document fragment is presented from an in-character perspective, it should not be taken as the truth of the setting.

Context: For this week, I’ve selected four text with a common theme concerning philosophical outlooks among mages. While very short, this expert is enough to convey the point of this strange text. But do you understand it?

The Book of Truth is often counted as the seventy-fourth Mystery, an additional text that, over time, became obligatory reading for young mages.

Its author is unknown and, contrary to its name, wasn’t initially a book, but a scroll. The scroll also comes in multiple versions, some with minor editorial differences (or transcription errors) others utterly different in the text, but identical in their message.

As the Book of Truth is so well known among all of us, let us not discuss its meaning. Instead, may this be a journey through the history of the text.

Liber Veritatis

May Your Eyes Be Open
By The Truth Of This Book

Listen, May Your Eyes Be Open

You exist not; the words you read do not echo in your mind.
You see not colour as you gaze at the crimson sky.
The swine spread their wings and flock
amongst holy cathedral spires piercing the heavens
down towards this Earth.

May you be certain, of all that I have told you,
nought but this one is a lie.
