Lore: Extraplanar Atlas, XIIth Edition

Disclaimer: The following document fragment is presented from an in-character perspective, it should not be taken as the truth of the setting.

Context: This expert represents the world index of an extra-planar atlas, detailing worlds that exist in parallel with Earth within the great fractal space. Though referred to as alternate Earths, the degree of similarity the worlds have to our home varies, and they become more and more removed with each additional step away from the origin point. Please note that as a Mofu publication, this text is (in universe) translated from Chinese.

Earth #1000: Notaro II:

Yet another dead world. Assumed to be an Earth where either life never started or was prematurely ended. As per usual, the lifeless nature of the world makes it safe for exploration and exploitation, save for dangerous weather patterns.

Earth #1001: Notaro III:

Another dead world, located further away from Earth #0 than #1000 (which was used as an access point). Notable for the lack of a moon and higher gravity. Data collected there is considered critical to understanding some details of Solar System Dynamics. Safe for exploration and exploitation.

Earth #1002: Afolayan I:

A living Earth where the dominant life seems to stem from a form similar to fungi (symplasm based life), though the exact genetics are very removed from those of our Earth. The world is considered a biohazard despite the lack of any incidents.

Earth #1003: Antonov III:

A dead Earth, life on this world ended 60 million years ago. Discovered traces of life include armoured plant-like organisms, radially symmetrical soft body forms and life similar to Earth #0 radiolaria.

Earth #1004: Antwerpen I:

Another typical dead world. Unfit for exploration and exploitation due to dangerous weather patterns, including acid rain and hurricane winds.

Earth #1005: Zilberstein-Eccleston I:

A freshly resurfaced dead world, as such relevant to study of geodynamics. No atmosphere, hazardous volcanic activity.

Earth #1006: Balogh III:

A living Earth inhabited by RNA-based life forms. Curiously, the presence of life on this world does not appear to date back more than a million years, yet it also does not display expected patterns needed for abiogenesis.

Earth #1007: Montanari V:

One more in the series of many dead Earths, this specific version lacks water and an atmosphere. This condition may be traced back only two or three million years ago, leaving the world as a mystery. No working theory for the lack of air and water was ever presented. The world was sparsely visited after it’s discovery.

Earth #1008: MacCailín I:

A dead world. Noteworthy for the presence of an immense superstructure surrounding the moon, resembling a halo of radial protrusions. Nothing more about this world is known. Apart from the structure, no abnormalities were ever detected or recorded.

Earth #1009: Dyson-Sanford II:

Yet another typical dead world, life ended here approximately 8 million years ago and appeared to have consisted primarily of various colonial plant-like organisms.

Earth #1010: Chong IX:

Another dead world. Though one notable for its sun, which is progressing into the Red Giant phase. No working theory exists for this discrepancy.

Earth #1011: Chaudhari I:

A recently (within the range of 800k – 900k years ago) resurfaced world. Notable for the presence of life resembling cyanobacteria.

Earth #1012: Chaudhari II:

A world presumably locked in an ice-age. The hazardous, low-temperature environment of the landing zone dissuaded further exploration. Although analysis of atmospheric composition discovered only traces of life, including alien bacteria and viruses, it can be presumed the world houses complex life.

Earth #1013: Maksimov III:

An anomalous world, the landing zone was a flat expanse of a substance similar to volcanic glass. No samples were retrieved. The encountered abnormal and hazardous weather conditions dissuaded further exploration.

Earth #1014: Li-Kumar I:

A dead world housing traces of a non-human civilisation, in addition to remnants of abundant life. Extremely high levels of radiation. A hazardous location, exploration is disadvised for individuals incapable of providing appropriate radiation shielding. Even in such a case, exposure to this version of Earth may prove lethal.

Earth #1015: Jiang-Yeung-Liao I:

Another dead world, as far as research shows, life never began on this version of Earth, safe for exploration and exploitation.

Earth #1016: El-Hashem IV:

A living world displaying a healthy and diverse ecosystem. An equivalent to higher animals exists on this Earth. Their body morphology appears to have evolved from a tri-radially symmetrical animal. Hostile animals and potentially dangerous microbes mark this world as a biohazard.

Earth #1017: Vantchev I:

A dead world. This Earth is part of a binary star system. The other star is dim and takes the position of Jupiter, although the exact mechanics of how this came to be are unknown.

Earth #1018: Bengtsdotter VII:

An anomalous world. Reported to suffer from constant rain and violent storms. The unusual nature of the world reveals itself in numerous sizeable stone structures surrounding the landing zone. Each contains a corpse of a titanic bilaterally symmetrical organism. The ‘coffins’ appear to be two to four kilometres high and a half to one kilometre in diameter. This location is presumed to be a hypothetical burial ground for an unknown Great Race, though the world itself is also classified as a biohazard.

Earth #1019: Scully III:

Yet another typical dead world. Notable for the presence of a seemingly alien object embedded into the ground, discovered by use of a UAV based on detected gravitational anomalies. The craft was shot down with a condensed gamma-ray burst from a cylindrical construct buried partially into the rock and sand and estimated to be approximately 200 km long and 10 km in diameter and composed of an unknown material. Due to the hostile reaction from the anomaly, this world is not considered safe for exploration.

Earth #1020: Satou II:

A living world. Upon landing the researchers discovered a colony of Elb within throwing distance of the spot in which they arrived. Attempt to communicate with the xenos ended successfully, but they requested humans leave their garden world alone. It is advised not to visit this world, the metadimensional location of this Earth was purposefully omitted from the atlas.

Earth #1021: Narang I:

A living Earth inhabited by extremely diverse alternate chirality life forms. The life on this world is undergoing its own version of the Cambrian explosion. It is worth noting that the landmasses of this version of Earth are not yet inhabited, but the water is full of life, including life hazardous to humans. As all worlds with a vibrant ecosystem, this one is also considered a biohazard.

Earth #1022: Ioannidis I:

A dead world where no stars are visible in the sky, apart from the sun. The world has not received enough investigation to explain why this is the case. This version of Earth is a barren wasteland with no signs of life ever emerging on it, but specific suggestions of visits from at least one type of Other. To date, these sings have attracted more attention than the world’s starless sky.

Earth #1023: Leifsson-Ingólfsson I:

A dead world polluted with caustic biomatter. The source of said pollution is the corpse of an extraordinarily large and grotesque entity hanging in this Earth’s orbit, along with a ring surrounding the planet formed from its bodily fluids. The creature’s highly discombobulated form suggests a violent end.

Earth #1024: Leifsson-Ingólfsson II:

A world inhabited by simple life forms. Unusually, approximately 60% of all biomass on the planet constitutes a single multi-cellular organism resembling a slime. Though perhaps it is better described as an interconnected supercolony. Research of the creature, dubbed the Moas (Mother of all Slime), revealed it to not originate from this version of Earth but rather a different location.

Earth #1025: Douglas I:

A dead recently resurfaced planet. Nothing noteworthy has been discovered on this specific world, but it is an access point to Douglas II-IV, the beginning of the Douglas Chain. The planet requires standard safety gear for atmosphere-less worlds.

Earth #1026: Douglas II:

A version of Earth currently undergoing an ice age. The atmosphere contains only trace oxygen, but simple forms of life were discovered in the water. Due to extreme weather conditions, the world is not thoroughly explored. Anomalous hurricane winds and generally violent weather patterns do not permit the use of crewless aircraft. The planet leads further into the Douglas Chain, allowing for access to the third planet.

Earth #1027: Douglas III:

A dead world upon which rests the corpse of a titanic creature dubbed the Gardener. The world is considered a biohazard. Information about access to this world is redacted from the atlas; the world remains under observation. It is deemed to be important from the perspective of the issues of abiogenesis and panspermia.
